Understanding, mapping and evaluating risks at the strategic, operational and tactical levels for human-made threats and natural disasters allows leaders to effectively and confidentially prepare for and prevent, respond to and manage, and transition and recover from a crisis situation. RSM is the only organization which provides easy to access online Institute of Leadership Management [ILM] certifications for risk leadership, as well as 23 HRCI and SHRM credits. Our internationally orientated program offers 5hrs of training within 7 mandatory courses, with up to 17hrs of elective training within 28 courses. For the majority of crisis events, people are involved, and this places staff and family liaison at the heart of managing a crisis event. The requirement to understand the nature of fraud and corruption, how to lead, plan, manage or oversee an internal investigation, and the implications to business, operations and the reputation of the team can be critically important. Chiefs of Party or Country Directors are the ultimate risk owners for field operations. Their role is pivotal in terms of identifying, evaluating and addressing humanmade threats and natural disasters, building the risk management and business continuity standards and practices needed to control risks for their operating area and activities, and in leading the immediate and long-term response to risks which threaten people, operations, facilities, assets and information; and critically, in protecting the wider business interests and reputation of their organization. These senior leaders also direct security professionals or focal points in the day to day management of security and safety activities, and so need to have a strong basis of understanding of security risk management. And, the role is often responsible for the safety of staff during travel, including ensuring effective road safety measures are in place. This comprehensive range of learning areas is designed to support leaders working from benign to high-risk and complex environments to understand, address and react to safety and security risks.
The senior leadership team either directs or guides the response to, and management of, serious incidents. The ability to react to unique, fast moving and high-impact crisis events, often with little to no warning, requires leaders to quickly gasp critical – and often unique and unfamiliar – considerations when dealing with a single or multiple faceted crisis under time pressures. A misstep by the leadership team can have devastating impacts upon the people involved, as well as the wider business and reputational interests of the organization – as such decisions must be made quickly – and they must be correct every time! This program provides micro-learning opportunities for leaders [within the home office and field] to gain critical knowledge before a crisis occurs; or to access specific to crisis knowledge as a threat emerges, or a crisis unfolds. The program includes foundational information on common best practice for approaching crisis situations, activating the leadership team and focusing on key priorities. A module on the common cross-cutting requirements found within many forms of crisis is also included. The program also includes a series of specific to crisis event response considerations, including: 1. Active shooter and armed aggressor incidents, 2. Anti-terrorist financing and support, 3. Arrest, detentions and exit denials, 4. Serious assaults and violence against individuals, 5. Bomb threats, 6. Chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear incidents, 7. Civil disorder events, 8. Cyber security incidents, 9. Intimidation, extortion and coercion incidents, 10. Intellectual property and sensitive information thefts, 11. Incidents of ethical misconduct, 12. Fatality and repatriation management, 13. Kidnap, ransom and hostage situations, 14. Imminent severe natural hazards, 15. Pandemic and serious infectious disease outbreaks, 16. Serious injuries and mass casualty events, 17. Natural disaster events, and 18. Youth related incidents.
Program management plays a critical role in identifying and addressing a wide range of safety and security risks their staff and program goals and activities face when implementing both short-term and long-term activities internationally. This leadership program provides critical areas of knowledge and practice to build stronger, more effective and more resilient programs – protecting people, activities, business and the wider reputation of the organization. Modules address mapping and assessing complex and fluid risks, proactive resiliency planning measures, the selection of hotels or guesthouses for travelling or long-term deployed staff, effective travel risk management standards and measures, stakeholder needs, engagement and management, different leadership styles during an emergency, the steps for activating a crisis management response, the common responsibilities of Trip Team Leaders, emergency communication techniques, family liaison during a crisis, conducting After-Action reviews following an incident, and the mechanisms by which to resume business after a crisis.

Events, whether a conference, seminar or workshop, create opportunities to collaborate, share ideas and foster personal and professional growth – however they also present opportunities for criminals, hostile government agencies and terrorists to target individuals and groups. Small and short-term deployed teams face risks when working abroad, and often no appointed or trained lead on safety and security is defined to manage risks and respond to an emergency situation. Developing the knowledge and skills by which to plan for and manage risks as a team, and respond to an emergency effectively – while acting as the bridge between the point of the incident and the headquarters team can be critically important. This course provides 2hrs of learning within 3 mandatory courses and up to 2hrs of learning within 2 elective courses with 4 HRCI and SHRM credits. The ability to offer first aid support to sick or injured individuals, especially in a remote region distanced from medical support, or where a crisis has occurred and medical first responders are unable to provide immediate support, can make the difference between a life and death situation. This training provides casualty stabilization awareness training to enable managers and staff to understand the simple techniques by which to stabilize causalities until professional medical help arrives; even when first aid assets and equipment may not be available. This first aid training course helps organizations develop internal capacity, allowing staff to assess the status of a casualty and provide life stabilizing treatment. During crisis events where multiple causalities may occur this training also looks at casualty prioritization. The course covers: An Introduction to First Aid and Casualty Stabilization Bleeding and Blood Loss Management Burn Injuries Breaks and Fractures CPR Casualty Management Mass Casualty Situations and TRIAGE Environmental Hazards (Hot and Cold Weather Injuries) Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). This course is designed to meet the needs of standard first aid training, but uniquely, to also address the requirements of casualty stabilization in remote locations far from medical support. RSM has developed a module specifically on PTSD awareness to help staff and family members understand the signs, symptoms and self-help measures which can be used following traumatic events, and measures that can practically be taken to minimize the risk of developing PTSD where staff know they are traveling to areas that may present significant emotional challenge.
